In this topic, you will learn how to register in the G5 system as an Impact Aid user.
Steps:
Start at the G5 website, www.G5.gov.
The G5 registration process consists of three steps:
1. Registering in G5
2. Activating your account
3. Editing your profile
Step 1To begin, click the Sign Up ยป link to register as an Impact Aid user.
Step 2The User Registration screen displays.
Click the button to the right of the ED Employee/ED Contractor field to display the employee/contractor options.
Step 3Select the No list item.
Step 4Enter information into the First Name field.
For this example, enter "Tim".
Step 5Enter information into the Last Name field.
For this example, enter "Applicant".
Step 6Enter information into the Telephone No. field. Note that you do not need to enter dashes or spaces, only the 10-digit phone number.
For this example, enter "9415555656".
Step 7Enter information into the Email Address field.
In this example, enter "tim.applicant@gmail.com".
Step 8Enter the email address again in the Confirm Email Address field. The two entries must match.
In this example, the email address has been copied into the field.
Note that you may use the copy and paste function to complete the Confirm field.
Step 9Click the Vertical scrollbar to scroll down and complete the registration information.
Step 10Enter information into the Address 1 field.
In this example, enter "2000 Veterans Boulevard".
Step 11Enter information into the City field.
In this example, enter "Punta Gorda".
Step 12Click the button to the right of the State field to display the list of state codes.
Step 13Select the state from the dropdown list.
In this example, select Florida.
Step 14Enter information into the Zip/Postal Code field.
In this example, enter "33983".
Step 15Click the button to the right of the Country field to display the list of countries.
Step 16Click the Vertical scrollbar to scroll down through the list of countries.
Note: You may also press the first letter of the country on the keyboard to jump to the countries in the list starting with that letter.
Step 17Select the country from the dropdown list.
In this example, select USA.
Step 18Click the Continue button to continue to the user registration agreement.
Step 19This page displays the registration information entered as well as the user agreement.
Step 20Click the Vertical scrollbar to scroll down and read the user agreement.
Step 21Note: If you wish to change the data on this page, click the Previous button.
When using G5, do not navigate using the Back and Forward buttons in your internet browser.
Step 22Select the Agree option to agree to the user agreement.
Note: If you do not agree, then you may not complete the registration process.
Step 23Click the Submit button to submit your registration.
Step 24The system displays a message indicating that a notification will be sent to your email address.
G5 confirmation messages are displayed in green and signify the successful completion of a task.
Error messages are displayed in red.
Step 25G5 sends an email message with a link which opens the Account Activation page.
Step 26Clicking the link takes you to the Account Activation screen.
Click the Agree option to agree to the account activation terms.
Step 27Click the Submit button to submit your account activation.
Step 28The G5 User ID and Password Memorandum is displayed. Please read and be aware of these rules and instructions.
To print this page, select the Print option within your internet browser.
Step 29Click the Vertical scrollbar to scroll down and review the rules for the user ID and password.
Step 30Click the Continue button to complete the password, security question and security answer.
Step 31Click the Vertical scrollbar to scroll down.
Step 32Enter a password in the Password field. This password must meet the requirements listed above.
In this example, enter "Passw0rd_1".
Step 33Repeat the password in the Verify Password field. The two password entries must match.
In this example, the password has been re-entered in the Verify Password field.
Step 34Click the button to the right of the Security Question field to display the list of security questions.
Step 35Select a security question from the dropdown list.
In this example, select Who was your favorite teacher?
Step 36Enter information into the Security Answer field.
In this example, enter "Mr. Kotter".
Step 37Click the Continue button to continue to the summary information page.
Step 38This page displays the information you have entered. Your password will be masked.
Click the Activate button to activate your account and save your password and security information.
Step 39The system displays a message indicating that the account has been activated and that you will need to log into G5 to select your role for access and complete the registration.
Next Step
You will receive an email with the G5 link.
Step 40G5 sends an email message with a link which opens the G5 homepage.
Step 41Enter the email address you used to register in G5 into the Email ID field.
In this example, enter "tim.applicant@gmail.com".
Step 42Enter the password you set up into the Password field.
In this example, enter "Passw0rd_1".
Step 43Note: You must accept the Department's terms in order to successfully log into G5.
Click the Yes, I Accept the Terms option.
Step 44Click the Login to G5 button to log into the system.
Step 45Hover over the Main option on the blue toolbar and click the My Profile menu item to open the Edit Profile page.
Step 46The Edit Profile page displays with the information you entered when you set up your account.
Click the Vertical scrollbar to scroll down and verify the information.
Step 47Note: You may update any of the fields which are active. To change your password, you must click the Change Password button at the bottom of the page.
You cannot change your first name, last name, or email address from this page. Contact the G5 Hotline to update these fields.
Step 48Next, you must select your desired access from the Available Types list.
Select the Applicant list item to access grant applications.
Step 49Click the Continue button to continue to the Optional Information screen.
Step 50Click the button to the right of the Are you an Impact Aid user? field to display the answer choices.
Step 51Select the Yes list item.
Step 52Note: If you do not know your Impact Aid number, contact the Department's Impact Aid Program Office for assistance at 202-260-3858.
Also Note: If you submit your information without an Impact Aid Number, the system will generate a temporary one for you. If you then complete an application using the temporary Impact Aid Number, the system will not pre-populate any of your data from your prior applications.
Step 53Enter your Impact Aid number for your organization into the Impact Aid Number field.
If your organization has never applied for Impact Aid before, leave this field blank.
In this example, enter "770001".
Step 54Click the Continue button to continue to the Review Your Profile screen.
Step 55Click the Vertical scrollbar to scroll down and review your profile.
Step 56Note: The system has updated your profile information with your Impact Aid information.
Step 57Click the Submit button to submit your work and complete the registration process.
Step 58The system displays a message indicating that your profile was successfully updated.
Click the Vertical scrollbar to scroll down.
Step 59Click the Go To Home button to return to the My Home Page screen.
Step 60Next Steps
There is about a 30-minute lag before your profile is completely updated with your new access and new menus. You will need to log out of G5 and then log back in after 30 minutes to begin working on your application.
Step 61Click the Logout menu item to log out of G5.
